Overview

This is a superb trek for strong walkers. Starting from Paro it goes into northern Bhutan to the land of yak-herders and to the base of Mount Chomolhari (7,316 meters / 24,000 feet), which is the most holy mountain for the Bhutanese. From there the trek goes on to remote Lingshi Dzong which once guarded the frontier with Tibet. This trek offers fabulous views of the mountains including Chomolhari, Jitchu Drake and Tsheringkhang. Besides stunning Himalayan scenery and exceptional flora, you will encounter many yak-herders and their camps but few villages. The maximum altitude gained is 4,900 meters (16,000 feet). This trek can be done from March to November but the best months are March, April, May, June, September, October and November.

Day 1




Arrive in the Paro Airport: Altitude: 2280m/ 7524ft above sea level
Your representative from Raven Tours and Treks will greet you, brief you about the trip and will take you to the hotel where you will be staying. Later visit National Museum, Rimpung Dzong, Kichu Lhakhang . Overnight in Paro

Day 2



In Paro: Morning acclimatization hike to Tiger’s Nest, 800m above Paro valley (total 3 to 4 hours hike) and later visit the traditional farm house. Overnight in Paro.

Day 3









Trek begins: Chomolhari Round Trek
Standard: medium - hard
Duration: 9 days
Distance: 82.5 miles/ 133 km
Altitude Gain: 11,608ft/3539m
Altitude Loss: 7987ft/2435m

Trek from Paro to Shana. Altitude 2890 m/9410ft, (15 km/9.3miles, 5 hrs walk).

Day 4


Shana to SoiThangkha. Altitude 3575m/11,730ft, (22 km/13.6miles, 6 to 7 hours walk).

Day 5


SoiThangkha to Jangothang. Altitude 4044m/13,260ft (17 km/10.5 miles, 5 hours walk)

Day 6

Halt at Jangothang

Day 7


Jangothang to Lingshi. Altitude 4010 m/13,150ft, 5 to 6 hrs walk, distance 21km

Day 8


Lingshi to Shodu. Altitude 4080m/13,380ft, (8 t o 9 hours, distance 22km/13.6miles)

Day 9


Shodu to Barshong. Altitude 3720m/12,200ft, 14 km/8.7 miles, 5 hours walk

Day 10


Barshong to Dolam Kencho. Altitude:3290m/10790ft, 15 km/9.3 miles, 4 hrs walk).

Day 11



Dolam Kencho to Thimphu(Dodina). Altitude: 2320m/ 7656ft,(7 kms/4.3miles, 3 hours walk). On the way to the hotel visit the Mini Zoo. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 12




In Thimphu: Morning visit the Memorial Chorten, Hand Made Paper factory, Nunnery, Institute of 13 arts and crafts, Textile Museum, Folk Heritage Museum and if you would like to play a golf, you can for which you will have to pay extra charges. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 13



Day Excursion to Punakha/Wangdue: Early Morning drive to Punakha (2 hrs 30 minutes drive). Visit Punakha Dzong and hike to Chimi Lhakhang. Later drive back to the capital city Thimphu. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 14



Morning /Afternoon, transfer to airport for onward travel. Your representative from Raven Tours and Treks will help you out with exit formalities.

Important Information Below

Bhutan Tourist Visa

Once you book your tour with us we will arrange the Bhutan visa for everyone in the group. Bhutan visas are available at the entry point to Bhutan with prior approval. As soon as your tour is confirmed with us, we will apply for your visa well in advance of your visit (usually 30 days prior to arrival). This will be waiting at the Paro Airport or at the land entry point at Phuentsholing if coming by land through India. A copy of the visa clearance and Druk Air e-ticket will also be provided to you. These two documents are very important and a copy of it, you will have to bring along with you for emergencies.

In case you travel via overland from India to Bhutan, please make sure you carry with your, 2 passport size photographs.

Please make sure that you have given us your full passport details to enable us to apply for your Bhutan visa as soon as you are ready to confirm the Bhutan tour/trek. If you are connecting via New Delhi (or other ports) in India or if your travel includes India you need an India Visa before you leave your home. Please note visas are not available at the airports in India.

If you are traveling via Thailand or Nepal, you can get a Visa upon arrival in Bangkok or Kathmandu airports.

Please note that space on flights in an out of Bhutan is very tight, specially during the tourist seasons, therefore we would like to suggest that you work on your dates for your flights AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and send requests for air seats. FYI: Last Autumn many potential travelers had to cancel/postpone their trips to Bhutan because they could not secure air seats in time. We can book your flight to from Bhutan.
